Outward Bound students spent time Wednesday July 7, helping the Moab Valley Multicultural Center (MVMC) create additional garden space at the center’s new location on 100 West.

The 14 Outward Bound students who participated made the stop at the MVMC after completing a trip through Labyrinth and before heading out for Desolation Canyon, according to a news release from Outward Bound.

Outward Bound works to help students learn compassion through acts of service, according to the news release. The program is designed to help students learn to value and express compassion, and encourages them to continue practicing compassion by working with others in their own hometowns.

The organization, which has a base office in Moab, has logged nearly 10,000 hours of service to local organizations including the Youth Garden Project, CARE for Moab, Solutions of Moab, and Sol Food Farms. Outward Bound students also have performed service work for Weed Warriors, a National Park Service tamarisk removal program in Lodore Canyon on the Green River and on sections of the Yampa River.

Outward Bound’s newest partnerships include work with MVMC and ecological restoration work at Spanish Bottom in Cataract Canyon, according to the news release.
