California woman injured in I-70 crash

Volunteers with the Moab Valley Fire Department used the “jaws of life” to extract a California woman from her damaged van Saturday, July 11 after she was injured when the vehicle she was driving rolled on Interstate 70 near Cisco.

The woman, 62, from Vallejo, Calif., was traveling east on I-70 at about mile 214 when the 2000 Ford Minivan she was driving drifted off the side of the road. Investigators said the driver overcorrected to get back on the road and lost control of the vehicle, according to a report from the Utah Highway Patrol.

The vehicle rolled several times into the median, according to the UHP report. Fire department workers removed the woman from the van and she was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo. by Grand County ambulance according to the report.

Investigators said it is unclear why the woman’s vehicle drifted off the roadway. The accident was one of three crashes, including a fatal wreck, that occurred July 11 within one mile of one another, UHP Trooper Jeff Arbon said.
