Where’s the beef?

Why are the activities of our local law enforcement and judicial system so under-reported? All too often, I hear about things that are never reported in the paper.

I, for one, would like to know more about crime, enforcement and the punishment of crimes in our community. Unlike most other issues, last week’s was filled with stuff.

The front page article about a former police officer being sentenced for his crimes was very upsetting in many ways, but it was very informative. The article on A-5 about the FBI awards presented to our local sheriff’s deputies for their help in finding “remains of one of the victims of a serial killer” was fascinating, but why is this the first we have read about it? I also found the article on A-2 to be an interesting account of a high speed chase, but I was also disappointed there wasn’t more information about it.

The article raised more questions than it answered. What is the policy of law enforcement regarding high-speed chases? How many vehicles were involved? How many taxpayer dollars are spent to catch and prosecute reckless drivers in general, and these ones in particular? How much reckless driving was done pursuing them?

Thursday’s issue was more informative than any I’ve read in almost 20 years, so, kudos to the T-I for that, but I want more, lots more, so please follow up, fill in the blanks, and keep it coming!

And then there are the elections coming up in November. How about some in-depth reporting about the candidates. I want some help so that I can make an informed decision when I go to the polls.

I’m sick of the rumor mill and all these “letters to the editor.” Where’s the beef?

I agree. More indepth reporting on anything that happens in our community would be good. Most of the reporting is in regards to the City and County Council meetings or who won the last football game.

Hearing about law enforcement activities is a good place to start.
