The meeting, to be held at the Grand Center on July 22, will focus on “verification” of a draft vision statement now being prepared by the planning team, based on the results of a workshop held last week, Preston said.
The vision statement must have the acceptance of people who attend the meeting, or must be changed to make it acceptable, Preston said.
The new technique for doing this is called “keypad polling.”
All attendees at the meeting will receive a keypad polling device that allows them to provide electronic feedback instantly and anonymously by voting “yes” or “no” on questions about elements of the draft vision statement, Preston said.
Results will be tallied by computer and immediately displayed. This new technique increases participation and improves the consensus building process, Preston said.
There also will be open discussion in both small and large groups, Preston said.
When finalized, the vision statement will become the foundation for the general plan update of goals and strategies, Preston said.
