Several students from Grand County schools recently received certificates of achievement for their entries in the ExploraVision competition. The competition, sponsored by Toshiba and the National Science Teachers Association, recognized students for creating innovations in science.
Helen M. Knight Intermediate School students Austin Pyatt and Andy Troutman, coached by teacher Jean Eardley, received certificates for their invention of the home automated recycling machine and natural energy (HARMANE), developed to help make recycling easier in the future.
Red Rock Elementary School students Emily Risley and Kestrel Troutman, coached by teacher Tom Warren, entered the contest and used technology to research and design a magic patch wig to help young children undergoing chemotherapy treatments. The process took several months, with Warren as team coach and Deb Troutman as a team mentor.
