The Moab Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary has announced the three delegates from Moab to the Girls State session in June. This year’s Girls State delegates are Edye Baker, daughter of Stan and Chris Baker, Taylor Flanders, daughter of Ron Flanders and Sena Hauer, and Ashlee Norman, daughter of Steve and Tamra Norman.

Girls State sessions are conducted in 49 states by the American Legion Auxiliary. The program is structured to help develop leadership and pride in American citizens, to educate delegates about the U.S. system of government, to instill a greater understanding of American traditions, and to stimulate a desire to maintain the democratic government processes, according to a news release from the Moab Auxiliary.

Girls State citizens participate in fictional political parties, and elections are held to fill city and state positions. Activities include legislative sessions, campaigning, party rallies, debating and voting.

Officials with Moab’s Unit No. 54 of the American Legion Auxiliary also expressed thanks to local contributors who made it possible to send girls to Girls State.
