The Moab Valley Multicultural Center will present a film about the “guitar-making capital of Mexico” on Thursday, May 20. The movie, presented as part of the center’s ongoing series sponsored by the Utah Humanities Council, will be shown at 6 p.m. at the Grand County Public Library, 257 E. Center Street.

The film, “Hecho en Paracho” or “Made in Paracho,” explores the town of Paracho, in Michoacan, which is also the home of MVMC’s director of outreach services, Leticia Bentley, who will discuss her knowledge of the town and the people. Bentley will also offer insight from the perspective of someone who was raised in a family of guitar-makers.

The hour-long film examines the growth of the guitar industry, and offers a view of the guitar festival that is held in Paracho each August. The movie also explores how the fine guitar-making industry has been threatened by inexpensive Chinese imports.
