Canyonlands Field Institute (CFI), a local outdoor education center for youth, adults and school groups, is offering three Young Explorer Base Camps this summer for local and regional youth.

Each base camp will consist of three nights camping in the La Sal Mountains, with hiking, games, and learning activities each day. The fourth day will be spent on the Colorado River ‘”daily” stretch outside of Moab.

CFI’s guides are all trained naturalists with training in advanced first aid or wilderness medicine, according to a CFI news release.

Each program is limited to 12 participants and the cost is $100 per child. CFI offers a 10 percent discount for siblings from the same family. Scholarships are available for lower-income students.

A base camp program for students entering grades seven through nine will be held June 15-18. A camp for kids entering grades four through six is slated for July 6-9, and a camp for students entering grades four through six is scheduled for Aug. 10-13.

These camps are partially funded through donations to CFI by local businesses, The Grand County Recreation Special Services District, and CFI donors.

Reservations for the Young Explorers Base Camps are now being accepted, according to a news release from CFI.

For more information or to make a reservation, contact CFI at 259-7750 or by email at info@canyonlandsfieldinst.org.
