The GCHS baseball team came close to winning its first region game of the season last Friday, April 23, but ended up losing both games of its home doubleheader against North Sevier.

The Red Devils lost the first game 12-2, getting both of its runs in the second inning before North Sevier pulled away in the later innings.

Grand’s four seniors – Trevor Robertson, Jesse Mallon, A.J. Olschewski, and Scott Shannon – were honored between games.

Despite losing the first game by 10 runs, the Red Devils managed to stay with the Wolves for much of the second game. Grand managed a total of eight hits in the second contest, as Olschewski and Kody Frank each hit a triple and Robertson and Wesley Rodda both had doubles.

The score was tied 5-5 at the end of the seventh inning, which made the game go an extra inning. North Sevier managed to score three more runs in the top of the eighth, and Grand was unable to score thereafter, taking the 8-5 loss. Robertson pitched the entire game and took the loss.

Grand (now 3-15 overall, 0-8 in region play) still has a chance to advance in the post-season, as they face the Parowan Rams in a play-in game Saturday, May 1 at Parowan. The Rams (13-7 overall, 8-0 in region) are the No. 1 team from Region 13.
