The Times-Independent received eight awards for journalism and design excellence on Saturday from the Utah Press Association.

    

The Times-Independent's editorial staff won a first-place prize for best editorial with "A deal's a deal."

Times reporter Craig Bigler received a first-place award for best news series for his coverage of the history and issues at Canyonlands Field Airport.

Times sports editor Tom Taylor received a third-place award for best sports column.

    

The Times-Independent's advertising and design staff took first-place honors for an in-house ad designed by Lola McElhaney.

    

The Times also received a second-place award for best breaking news, a third-place award for best news coverage, and second-place honors for best front page and best photo page.
