The husband and wife team of Sandy and Geoff Freethey have been named recipients of the 2007 Silver Bowl Award. The award is given annually to recognize the outstanding volunteer efforts of local citizens.

The Freetheys received the award based on their countless hours and dedication that they both have donated to the community, according to Silver Bowl committee members.

The couple is very involved with local senior citizen programs, and Sandy Freethey provides transportation for seniors to medical appointments. She also helps with the Delicate Stickers Quilting Charity Events, and volunteerd to help the Museum of Moab conduct an inventory of its holdings.

She serves on the Grand County Historical Preservation Committee and helps change the seasonal tree decorations at the Grand County Public Library.

Geoff Freethey helps with recycling trash pick-ups and does handyman projects for area seniors in need. He volunteers with Rescue Alert installations and serves on three hydrologic committees.

He also helps area seniors with Medicare sign-ups and gives consultations on the Medicare Part D program. The Freetheys also volunteer for the Canyonlands Half Marathon, the Other Half, and the Sun Run, and are involved in trail work projects in Grand County. They work with the Trail Mix Committee, helping create non-motorized trails, and with Moab Friends for Wheelin' on service projects with federal land management agencies.
