The Grand County High School softball team continued its torrid start, winning three times last week to improve its overall record to 9-1, including eight straight victories.

Senior pitcher Brittnie Whipple again mowed down the opposition in all three games, capping off her week with a no-hit perfect game in a 6-0 win at Gunnison on Friday, March 30. Whipple also threw a two-hitter against Gunnison earlier that afternoon as the Lady Devils won the first game of the doubleheader 14-2.

At Moab on Tuesday, March 27, Whipple also pitched the Lady Devils to a 3-0 win over the San Juan Broncos. Whitney Saggboy broke a scoreless tie with a two-run double in the fourth inning and later scored to give the Lady Devils the only runs they needed. Whipple finished the job, striking out 14 batters over seven innings and giving up just two hits.

In the first Gunnison game last Friday, catcher Lauren White went four-for-four at the plate, hitting a double and a triple. Second baseman Emily Lopez also had four hits. The Lady Devils jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Whipple struck out 12 and gave up just two hits over six innings.

In the second game, the Lady Devils allowed no base runners as Whipple struck out 13 of the 15 batters she faced over five innings and also hit a double for good measure.

With the doubleheader sweep of Gunnison, Grand County improved to 9-1 overall, 5-0 in region play. The Lady Devils' next scheduled home games are a varsity doubleheader on Friday, April 13 against South Sevier, starting at 2 p.m.
