The Moab office of the Bureau of Land Management is offering a reward for information leading to the identification and conviction of the person or persons responsible for vandalizing several rocks along state Route 128.

BLM officials said the vandalism occurred sometime between March 21 and March 22. Vandals spray-painted words and symbols on several rocks located in the BLM’s Colorado Riverway Recreation Area.

The graffiti includes the words “KOMY KYENTA” and “KOMY 2010,” as well as several symbols, BLM officials said in a news release Tuesday. Some of the painted symbols are 4 feet in height and were sprayed on large rocks using black spray paint.

“The Colorado Riverway Recreation Area is utilized by tens of thousands of recreationalists each year including campers, bicyclists, boaters and sightseers,” BLM official Katie Stevens said in the news release. “This type of behavior displays a lack of respect for the scenic beauty of this recreation corridor and its numerous user groups.”

The BLM is offering a $1,000 reward for information in the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact BLM Field Staff Law Enforcement Ranger Jason Moore at 259-2109. Those providing information can request that their identity be protected, BLM officials said.
