The Moab Arts Council (MAC) recently awarded their

2006 Arts Grants. Since 2002 primary funds for the grants have come

from Moab City with additional funds offered by the arts council. The

MAC re-grants funds to individuals and organizations for arts projects,

education and services that benefit the community. Matching funds are

not currently required.

This year MAC received $13,4334 in requests. MAC

awarded $6,450 in grants to: Moab Art Walk, Desert Child Music Recorder

Choir, HMK After School Program, HMK Dance Residency, Halloween Art

Carnival, Moab Arts Festival, Moab Community Dance Band, Moab Music

Festival Educational Scholarship, Moab Photography Symposium, Moab

Poets and Writers, Red Rock Elementary Arts Framework Committee,

Solutions and Moab Artist Studio Tour. Parties interested in applying

for 2007 funds can find information at the MAC Web site:

www.moabartscouncil.org.

The Moab Arts Council is organized to serve as the

one stop for the arts in Moab. As a federally recognized 501c3

organization, its mission is to promote and support the arts in

southeastern Utah. MAC acts as an arts advocacy, leadership and

granting organization. This past fall the MAC sponsored the Utah Arts

Council’s (UAC) Listening Tour and recently received a UAC Technical

Assistance grant to continue arts discourse in Moab. For the past 18

months several MAC board members participated in the UAC Change Leader

Program, designed to nurture community arts leadership. “Graduating”

from the course were Theresa King, Sandra Starley, HL Weber and Bruce

Hucko.

MAC partners with and is a catalyst for a growing

number of projects including the Moab Artists Studio Tour, the annual

Halloween Carnival, the HMK Dance Program and the Community Arts

Roundtable. MAC is currently working to increase the funds available

for grants, is leading an effort to seek co-op marketing funds for arts

events and is expanding its website to better serve the arts community.

MAC believes that a strong arts community makes Moab a better home for

residents and visitors alike.
