I am Ken Ballantyne, and I am running for a position on the Grand County Council and I am fortunate enough to be running for this seat unopposed.

Having served on the original council I at least come into this situation with my eyes wide open to some of the issues that face the citizens of Grand County.

My core philosophy about how government should run has not really changed over the years: "…establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity…" (US Constitution).

As a member of the county council I will work hard to protect the rights and privileges of the citizens of the county.

Growth has been, currently is, and will always be a topic of Grand County. However we are not alone when it comes to concerns about growth. I am in favor of a sustained, sensible growth pattern for the county.

I expect the county planners, planning commission, and the county council to work with developers and other citizens in setting reasonable and sound policies that deal with growth issues. I expect developers to live by the standards that are set forth in those policies.

I would like to see a diversified job market in Grand County and sometimes government’s role is to get out of the way of success.

I would like to see continued progress on additional higher educational opportunities in Grand County.

Cars, trucks, semis, and Bikes are a vital part of the transportation network in Grand County but they are not a good mix on the same roadways. For the safety of all motorists, I would like to work with invested individuals in establishing additional bike lanes and paths in Grand County.

I will continue to work on establishing a long-term care center for our citizens.

I will work as hard as I can to keep our taxes low, if not lower than they currently are and I will keep an eye on the county budget and insist that the departments separate their wants from the needs.

I love Grand County. I am excited about the opportunity to serve this great county once again.
