Hunters who have obtained an antlerless control elk permit for the San Juan elk unit in San Juan County should be aware that the permit is only valid for that portion of the unit, east of U.S. 191, officials with the state Division of Wildlife Resources said last week.

The 2009 Antlerless Guidebook indicates that the DWR wants hunters to harvest as many antlerless elk as possible from several units, including the San Juan unit, east of U.S. 191, but permits are only valid for the specific unit east of U. S. 191, according to a news release from DWR.

Hunters who have obtained antlerless control permits for the San Juan east unit, are asked to review the boundary map and description. The map is available online at wildlife.utah.gov/maps/2009_antlerless/SanJuanEastofUS-191.pdf.

Anterless guidebooks are available at any San Juan County license agent or online at wildlife.utah.gov/guidebooks/2009_antlerless/.
