Local conservation and environmental groups will host a presentation Sept. 30 that they say takes “a closer look at what oil shale and tar sands development could mean for Colorado, Utah and Wyoming,” areas where the federal government is considering leasing 1.9 million acres of public land for development.

The “Oil Shale and Tar Sands Road Show,” a two-state, five-city tour, is open to the public and will begin at 6 p.m. at the Grand County Library, 257 East Center Street, in Moab.

Award-winning conservation photographer Garth Lenz and energy analyst Randy Udall will discuss Canada’s tar sands boom during the presentation that also features Lenz’s photographs of that region. Udall will discuss how the U.S. government’s proposal to lease public land for oil shale and tar sands production could impact portions of Utah, Colorado and Wyoming.

The event is sponsored byWestern Resource Advocates, Natural Resources Defense Council, and Red Rock Forests.
