Prevent Child Abuse Utah (PCAU) and the Grand County Prevent Child Abuse team have announced they will partner with Prevent Child Abuse America to unveil a new campaign to help stop child abuse and neglect. The campaign, Pinwheels for Prevention, will use the pinwheel as a symbol for child abuse and neglect prevention, according to a news release from Grand County Prevent Child Abuse.

“Shining in the sun, reflective of the bright futures all children deserve, the pinwheel is intended to represent the positive effect individuals can have on Utah’s children and families, ” the news release stated.

The campaign also focuses on community activities and public policies that prioritize early prevention, the news release stated.

In April 2008, in observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month, more than 400,000 blue and silver pinwheels were displayed across the country. This year, Utah communities are supporting the effort by displaying more than 5,000 blue and silver pinwheels, according to the news release, and some people are planting a pinwheel garden.
