The faculty and staff of Helen M. Knight Intermediate School have named Michelle Valdes as the recipient of the Mayor’s Citizenship Award for January.

HMK faculty and staff said Valdes received the award because she is “a good listener and always gives her best effort.” Staff members also said Valdes is “helpful to others, is a caretaker and a very hard worker.”

Moab Mayor Dave Sakrison and the Moab City Council recognized Valdes at the Jan. 27 city council meeting.

The award recipients are selected by the faculty and staff of HMK based on the student’s all-around citizenship and their involvement within the school.

The city of Moab presents the awards as part of the city’s efforts to foster and recognize the contributions of the community’s youth and to encourage good citizenship.
