Our city fathers and local citizens have provided Moab with some quality venues.

Primarily I’m pleased with the Moab Mill Creek Parkway, especially as it extends between I00 West and 500 West. This is a refreshing place where one may find peacefulness and the soul-reviving presence of nature, adjacent to the center of town.

Another wonderful addition to Moab are the facilities which are freely available to kids. First, there appeared in Swanny City Park the cement BMX and skateboard practice place, where I watched many of our most rowdy young citizens, focused on developing their skills. Even more outstanding is the manicured in the sand BMX Track, “Anonymous Park”, on 500 West, where organizers hold official races – an important aspect of acknowledging achievement.

Another opportunity for young people to focus their immense energy is Club Red. I’ve never been there, but I’m speculating that it serves that most disoriented group, kids in their early teens.

Finally, I’m grateful to all those in town who dedicate their creative energy toward enhancing our “hometown” feeling in this increasingly tourist-oriented place where we live: the MARC which provides a gathering place for artists and people with other “alternative” interests; WabiSabi which has prodigiously dedicated itself to supporting home-town friendly services; CFI, whose goal is to teach young people about the environment; Moonflower Market and Eklectica Cafe (and many others) who provide wholly healthy food and a heart-embracing atmosphere; our three well-maintained city parks, Swanny City Park and Old City Park with lots of cool fresh green grass and shade, play-centers for little children and well-placed seats for child supervisors, and sophisticated performance stages. Rotary Park has all these offerings as well as its xylophone-like instruments available for all curious park visitors to play with. Grand County Public Library, The Youth Garden Project, the Farmer’s Market and the Moab Recycling Center are all boons to the functioning of Moab, as well as many other enriching endeavors which I’m unaware of.

We are very fortunate to have so many top-notch local media providers: The Times Independent, The Zephyr, Moab Happenings, and KZMU.
