
On the last day of camp the team received the “most improved team award.”
Six members of the Devilettes dance team – Morgan Taylor (freshman), Mina Frandsen (sophomore), Tanisha Erb (Senior), Kandace Hugentobler (senior), Mikayla Parriott (senior), and Shalece Guerrero (freshman) – also placed in the top 20 “drill down.”
The team’s two captains, Mikayla Parriott and Kandace Hugentober, were chosen to be among the top 16 dancers out of 120 dancers statewide who competed.
Grand County’s team was interviewed by one of the local St. George news stations, and their interview aired Thursday night, July 17,
“It was very exciting for the team to see their hard work publicized on television,” a member of the team’s coaching staff said.
The drill team has been preparing for camp since June 9, practicing every day at 6:30 a.m. Organizers said the camp is “very strenuous” as the dancers get up at 5:30 each morning and dance until about 8:30 p.m. every night, learning several dances, along with technique and specialty classes.
This year’s Devilettes team is comprised of seven GCHS freshman, six sophomores, one junior and three seniors.
