The Mayor of Moab city and the faculty and staff of Helen M. Knight Intermediate School have named Abby Mason as the recipient of the Mayor’s Citizenship Award for April.

Mason, a fourth-grader, is the daughter of Anthony and Rae Lynn Mason.

The staff at HMK described Mason as a hardworking, dedicated student. “She sets goals for herself and sticks with them when they become a bigger challenge than she expected,” staff members said. “Abby puts in as much time as is necessary to always do quality work – even when this means spending recess or taking work home to complete it to the high quality level she holds herself to. She knows that doing excellent work doesn’t mean doing it first; it means doing one’s very best, regardless of what those around you are doing.”

Moab Mayor Dave Sakrison and the Moab City Council presented the award to Mason at the April 27 Moab City Council meeting.

The HMK Students of the Month are selected by the faculty and staff of the school based on their all-around citizenship and their involvement within their school. The city of Moab presents the award as part of an ongoing effort to foster and recognize the contributions of young people within the community in practicing good citizenship.
